For my momento piece I chose the earliest memory I had of moving. It was right after my 7th grade. I remember vividly the way my room looked, it was bare and the only things in it were boxes, a mattress, and a suitcase. This was one of the hardest but most eye opening moves I had. I chose three packaging materials to represent this memory, tape, bubble wrap, and cardboard. I wrapped the tape and bubble wrap around the box in a messy unorderly way to show the anxiety that comes with a move but also the excitement. But i also wanted to add some flower like shapes because although it was chaotic it also reminded me of the beauty of moving on.

The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental and 3 dimensional into the miniature which can be enveloped by the body.
To have a souvenir of the exotic is to process both a specimen and a trophy
This made me think of african artifacts, it is taken by people unaware of its meaning and used to show their travels. It was created as one thing and in the end used as a trophy.
nostalgia cannot be sustained without loss
Nostalgia:a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations.
You can't know what happiness is without loss. This reminded me of the shows I use to watch as a child. It makes me miss my childhood. That is something I can never get back.

Capacity of objects to serve as traces of authentic experience.
The simplicity of even a single object, like an orange crayon or red lipstick or even a certain perfume smell that can relate to a past experience.
The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale.
I chose this image because when I read this quote the first thing it reminded me of was the children's movie "James and the Giant Peach". We only perceive things the way that we do because of our size. If we were three inches tall our perception of everything would be drastically different.

I remember vividly the way my room looked, it was bare and the only things in it were boxes, a mattress, and a suitcase. This was one of the hardest but most eye opening moves I had. I chose three packaging materials to represent this memory, packaging foam, bubble wrap, and cardboard. I used the foam as the base because its a very light material and is easily swept away with wind. I chose this to represent my love of travel. The cardboard is connecting the foam and bubblewrap. It symbolized myself and by values, its strong and stable. I used the bubble wrap on the top and shaped it like a balloon to represent flight.
