Response of Janine Antoni

I really like how Janine would bathe her self and lick away at her busts as if dissolving herself. She said it was like love hate relationship one has with their physical experience and I understand where she's coming from. I think that I'm more comfortable with the bust made out of soap more so than the chocolate because slowly licking away seems too intimate and somewhat disgusting to me. When she bathed with it it was as if she cleansed her body from her insecurities but by licking the chocolate it seemed as if she was letting in the unhealthy body image that these busts were meant to take away. This work definitely makes a statement and I like how hands on she is with it. I admire the slow process of making these busts and dissolving it in a creative way that also has meaning.
